It was only a matter of time before someone snatched up the old Snicker’s/Krazy Mac’s spot at the corner of W. 58th and Detroit. First-time restaurateur Rosita Kutkut will open La Boca (5800 Detroit Ave.), Spanish for “the mouth,” in early June. She took over the space soon after Krazy Mac’s closed in late November.
Chef Adam Schmith, formerly of Melange, describes the menu as “contemporary comfort cuisine with a Latin inspiration.” “We will grab the flavors and spices of Argentina, Venezuela and Chile and twist them into a variety of contemporary dishes,” explains Schmith. The all-day menu will feature affordable starters, flatbreads, sandwiches and small plates. Most of the items will be priced between $5 and $12. Diners can look forward to a flatbread topped with chorizo, onion and portabella mushroom. A chimichurri-marinated steak sandwich is served with yucca chips. House-made empanadas will be stuffed with ground lamb and kalamata olives. Lamb chops will be rubbed with a fragrant adobo spice mixture. The space has undergone significant modifications, including new wood flooring throughout and a fresh paint job. “We really tried to lighten it up in here,” notes Schmith. “Those black ceilings made the place feel like a closet.” La Boca will seat about 75 indoors, plus an additional 60 on the back patio.

Totally friendly and nice to hang out there. I stopped for an afternoon beer and am planning to go back and eat soon.
I had to laugh out loud as I read "all the spices of Argentina...." Argentineans dislike spicy food. Salt is about all they use. But I do love chimichurri so I will give this place a try.

Right because, there's no red pepper, cumin, paprika, or other seasonings in chimichurri sauce.. "spices" does not neccessarily mean "spicey."
While "La Boca" means strictly "the mouth", the restaurant is named after the Buenos Aires neighborhood of La Boca, with colorful tin-sided houses originally home mostly to Italian immigrants.
Tonight I went late and had the very nice spinach gnocchi, with a tomatoey sauce that tastes very much like home made. I hope they get the expresso machine soon!
Stopped at LaBoca for dinner. The food was fantastic. The freshness of the ingredients coupled with the presentation and price make this place a real winner. We will continue to dine here until it goes out of business which will probably not take long based on its location. Tremont or the district downtown would have guaranteed a longer life in this town. Revitalizing this area is like the futile attempt of making Ohio City more than a slum with a few restaurants.
Obviously the poster speaking of the Ohio City slum area, referring to the La Boca location, was not aware of their surroundings. The area is being revitalized and is carrying a number of worthy businesses. I say, "Welcome to our neighborhood, La Boca. We hope you are here to stay." After all, I am snacking on my leftover portabella empanada with balsamic reduction now. I love finding a restaurant that has ceviche as well!
Sooo.. did this place close?
yep, closed will be reopening as the rose something under new ownership on july 6
